This advanced-level supervisory position provides assistance to leadership for major departments and specialized service units within a large and complex public library branch. The Assistant Branch Manager III oversees complex, high-impact service areas, mentors senior staff, and serves as acting Branch Manager when assigned. Work at this level involves managing specialized collections or programs, coordinating integrated operations across multiple functional areas, and ensuring alignment with system-wide initiatives and community needs. The position exercises broad operational decision-making authority that influences branch-wide service quality, resource allocation, and program direction. Supervision is received from the Branch Manager.
NOTE: Please note that the upper pay range reflected in the job posting reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions, which are calculated per County policy. For external hires, offers are made at the base wage rate.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Requires a Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an American Library Association accredited program
- Requires a minimum of 3 years of. experience in public library management which includes 2 years of experience supervising or managing staff
- Professional Public Librarian certification from the Maryland State Department of Education or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire with an MLS degree
Substitutions for the above-listed required education and experience are a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years experience as described which includes 2 years of experience supervising or managing staff and the Library Associate certification from the MD State Department of Education within 2 years of hire. Additional required or preferred qualifications may apply based on operational needs, as approved by Human Resources.
